Oh the Places We'll Go....

....and the things we'll do!

It's only February 28th and I'm already wishing it were summer. Being the planner that I am, and the first summer that I'll be staying home with my girls, I made up 2 activity jars to help the summer break go by smoother. Also hoping to eliminate the "Momma, I'm bored!" statements. At the beginning of the day, my 4 & 5 year olds can choose what we might do with our day!

I came up with a list of 99+ activities and places to go here in Minnesota. Some activities may only take 30 minutes, but they will be fun none the less. I wrote them all out on construction paper and put them in the corresponding containers

52 Reasons...

...I love you.

A happy NOT Valentine's Day to my hubby. He isn't a very big fan of what Valentine's has become --- too commercialized. So he got his gift today!

Again, I found an idea on Pinterest and I decided to try it :)

Gather the materials needed:

Deck of Cards
Mod Podge
Paint Brush
Card Stock
Binding Rings
Ultra Fine Sharpie
Hole Punch
Scissors
List of Reasons you love that significant other of yours :)

I then cut my card stock down to fit onto the playing cards and wrote my reasons down.

Next, take you Mod Podge, playing cards and 'reasons'. Apply a little Mod Podge to the playing card and then place your 'reason' down and apply more Mod Podge over top. Then let dry.

Once dry (I let mine dry over night) take you hole punch and punch 2 holes in each card.

Put the binding rings in and you're done!

Busy Day!

We started off with some cleaning. Clean the bedroom, the toilet, vacuuming...stuff like that. Yes, my 5 year old cleans toilets! :)

Next up ---- Making Lip Gloss!

We needed pretoleum jelly, kool-aid mix and pretty little containers to put it in.

Melt the vaseline in 30 second increments until liquefied (stir in between). Once liquid, let cool for a little bit. And stir in the kool-aid. BEWARE: container will be hot!

Once all stirred together put it in your pretty container. I found mine on Amazon.

Let cool.

I found this recipe here via my new favourite site: Pinterest!

Next I sent the girls out to play in the backyard, while I baked up a couple loaves of Pumpkin Bread with a yummy cream cheese center. Recipe can be found here.

Next my friend came over and we madeTriple Chocolate Cake in a slow cooker. Yep, you read  that right....a slow cooker recipe for CAKE!

Mix all the ingredients together, pour in to a lightly greased crock pot.

Cook on high for 3-4 hours.
--- ours did NOT turn out, it burned and it wasn't even in there for 3 hours. Not sure what we did wrong :(

For dinner another friend made us Loaded Baked Potato Soup. While that was cooking, I made some Queso Blanco. It was good, but something was missing...not sure yet what it was.

And since we already had the ice cream, we needed something chocolate to go with it,  I whipped up some quick brownies.

Chewy Cocoa Brownies

1 2/3 cup granulated sugar
¾ cup butter (1 ½ sticks), melted
2 TBsp water
2 large eggs
2 tsp vanilla
1 1/3 cup flour
¾ cup cocoa
½ tsp baking powder
¼ tsp salt

PREHEAT oven to 350°F. Grease 13 x 9-inch baking pan
COMBINE sugar, butter and water in large bowl. Stir in eggs and vanilla. Combine flour, cocoa, baking powder and salt in a medium bowl; stir into sugar mixture. Spread into prepared baking pan.
BAKE for 18 to 25 minutes or until wooden pick inserted in center comes out slightly sticky. Cool completely in pan on wire rack. Sprinkle with powdered sugar.

It was a good day, now time to rest.

Quotes

I just love quotes...so much so that I have a special book just for quotes.

I follow @GreatestQuotes on Twitter and this morning they had a great one that will definitely be making it's way into my book (that is, when I remember to write it down) For now it will be here for all of you.

Taekwondo

well, Layla had her first real class of Taekwondo today. She is doing quite well, skill isn't there (no surprise), but what she lacks in ability she is making up with enthusiasm! Oh, and she's finally excited about it, too! In her first class she already received her black stripe and white stripe, and the instructor suggested her to test for her pre-orange belt (white with an orange stripe long ways) on the 2nd. we'll see how that goes :)

Life is Good

since the last post...

Pinterest is addicting. Trying to do more cooking.
Kindergarten is going great. School dances and trips to the theater are highlights.
Sickies come and go. The baby and the pre-schooler are getting hit the hardest.
RSV and puking are no fun! Poor girls. :(
Baby is growing up too fast. She is now 13lbs 8oz.

Working from home is great! I get the best of both worlds. Spending time with my babies and also bring in a paycheck!

Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas and Hanukkah came and went with very little drama.

Cheerleading done, next up Karate!

I will leave you with some pictures from the past few months.

until next time...
